NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 19, 2026 — The Rema Hort Mann Fund (RHMF) is pleased to present its roster of generous artists participating in the 30th Anniversary Gala and Art Auction taking place at Tribeca Rooftop on 28 October, presented in partnership with Phillips. With a 230-year legacy stewarding important works of Modern and Contemporary Art, Phillips brings RHMF’s anniversary auction to its international community of collectors and supporters who share our reverence for artists pushing the boundaries of creative expression while shaping today’s culture.
To commemorate the celebration, over 85 artworks will be offered at auction over the course of ten days through both an online sale on Phillips.com and in person at the gala’s live auction by the RHMF. The online sale will be open for bidding from 19 October to 28 October. Lots will be exhibited at the event on the 28th, during which time the separate live auction will take place for four additional pieces. Works have been generously donated by emerging and established artists alike, including RHMF Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant alums. Supporters who can’t attend the gala in person are encouraged to register to bid by phone.
The celebration, held once-every-five-years, marks 30 years of championing 650+ emerging artists and providing quality-of-life support to 2,400+ cancer patients and their families. The auction serves as the Fund’s single most important fundraising vehicle, raising crucial proceeds to support RHMF’s recently expanded grant initiatives: the Artists Living with Cancer Grant, the Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant, and the Peter Hort Quality of Life Grant.
RHMF’s Artists Living with Cancer Grant was inspired by Jacolby Satterwhite’s public campaign in which he courageously raised funds to pay for life-saving surgery addressing an infection in his shoulder, a complication from post-cancer care. His experience highlighted a glaring vulnerability facing today’s artists: when illness affects an artist’s ability to create, their livelihoods, financial stability, and access to safe recovery are put in jeopardy.
Carole Server, Board Chair, reflected, “I think the quality of the artists and the work really reflects artists’ commitment to supporting their community. Everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another, some personally and some through friends or loved ones, and I think that connection is really what made this auction so special. We were able to bring together amazing artists and fabulous works because they wanted to support their community and the artists living with cancer who are part of it.”
Satterwhite’s history with the fund long precedes the grant. He has known Board Chair, Carole Server, a collector of his work and friend, for over a decade. As a two-time survivor diagnosed with bone cancer at age 11, his experience became the impetus for RHMF’s Artists Living with Cancer Grant. He will be the inaugural recipient of the grant, receiving a special recognition of $25,000 in partnership with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. This grant, launching immediately after the fête, will support 10 additional artists in the NYC Metro area battling the disease with unrestricted grants of at least $10,000 each. The timing is especially consequential for independent artists navigating today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape while having inconsistent income.
Elysia Borowy, Executive Director of RHMF, shared, “We have something for everyone in this auction—that was intentional. I profoundly thank our participating artists, galleries, RHMF leadership, and our Host Committee for coming together in support of this cause. It hits home for so many of us, and we need you. I hope every one of your bids is a winning bid and, more importantly, that you find something you love and feel good about taking home.”
Annie Dolan, Phillips’ Senior Specialist, Head of Auctions, New York, said, “Phillips is honored to partner with the Rema Hort Mann Fund on this milestone event and to support an organization whose impact has been so meaningful over the past 30 years. The generosity of the participating artists and galleries is a powerful reflection of the strength and compassion of this community. It is incredibly rewarding to help bring these exceptional works to collectors in support of a cause that will directly benefit artists facing one of life’s most difficult challenges.”
As RHMF moves forward into the next decade, we celebrate and thank the generous artists in the auction who embody the Fund’s vision of sustained opportunity and dignity for artists, and quality of life for cancer patients and their families for the next 30 years.
The auction will showcase bold figurative works from Nicole Eisenman, Dana Schutz, Cristina BanBan, Kehinde Wiley and Jameson Green; contemporary paintings by Katherine Bernhardt, Jordan Kasey, Su Su, Katherine Bradford, and Van Hanos; inspiring pieces by Fred Tomaselli, Nina Chanel Abney, Mickalene Thomas, and Carlos Rolón; standout photographic works by Marilyn Minter, Miles Greenberg, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Matt Saunders; works on paper and editions by Marlene Dumas, Rashid Johnson, Emily Mae Smith, Calida Rawles, and Kennedy Yanko; and sculpture and object-based works by Arlene Shechet, Sharif Farrag, Chiffon Thomas, and Anina Major.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS LIVING WITH CANCER GRANT
The RHMF Artists Living with Cancer Grant will provide direct financial support of up to $10,000 to ten NYC-based visual artists who are currently receiving cancer treatment. After submitting an application and meeting all eligibility requirements, each candidate will be selected at random through RHMF’s lottery system. The one-time grant program targets immediate, treatment-related economic uncertainty when uninterrupted care is critical. This new initiative continues the legacy of the Fund’s rapid-response grants and adapts the model to address the economic vulnerability artists face today. Rooted in urgency and empathy, we believe no artist should have to choose between medical assistance and their livelihood, so they can preserve their well-being and the cultural impact of their work. The program will debut immediately after the Fund’s 30th gala, with registration open to all those who qualify in the NYC metro area.
ABOUT THE EMERGING ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP GRANT
The Rema Hort Mann Fund Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant provides direct financial support to emerging New York City–based visual artists. Established more than twenty years ago, the Emerging Artists Fellowship Program has become an emblem of excellence, recognizing artists at critical junctions of their development who go on to produce extraordinary work. Our distinguished alums—whose ranks include Sarah Sze (1997), Sanford Biggers (2001), Dana Schutz (2002), David Altmejd (2002), Mickalene Thomas (2007), Lisa Oppenheim (2008), Rashaad Newsome (2009), Deanna Lawson (2010), Virginia Overton (2011), Njideka Akunyili Crosby (2012), Aliza Nisenbaum (2013), Kenny Rivero (2015), Christina Quarles (2017), and Patrisse Cullors (2020)—are a testament to the significant contribution of the Rema Hort Mann Fund to the art world.
ABOUT THE PETER HORT QUALITY OF LIFE GRANT
The Peter Hort Quality of Life Grants (PHQOL) aim to assist cancer patients with tangible financial and personal difficulties that can accompany their care. Often, the challenges of cancer stretch beyond medical bills and treatment. To support patients navigating these obstacles, PHQOL offers flexible financial aid for critical healthcare needs, whether that means finding in-home caregivers, babysitting, taking a trip out of state, or covering unexpected costs. By relieving these added stressors, the grants help build patients’ support systems and offer more stability during a period when both can be crucial to their quality of life.
